Research Interests

My research interests focus on Web-based collaborative learning environments, strategies for facilitating online learning, and
    the use of Internet communication technologies (ICT) to extend educational potential in the classroom.

Research Projects

Virtual Faculty Teams: (2005 – 2006). A case study using participatory ethnographic and action research on international
    virtual team methods for collaboration and communication seeking project sustainability.

Online Focus Groups: (2004 - 2005). A research study exploring the uses of focus group methods to gather data in online
    synchronous environments.

TIP – Case Studies in Technology Integration in the Classroom: (2004). Four case studies collaboratively researched
    by a team of IT researchers describing the experiences of teachers studying to become K-12 technology coordinators in
    Georgia.

Community Building: (2003 - 2004). Inquiry into community building efforts in a graduate level education course delivered in
    a blended format. Dr. Michael Orey and Mr. Tel Amiel, co-investigators.

Time Study: (2002 - 2004) Inquiry into the use of time by students and instructors of a graduate level education courses
    delivered in blended and online formats. Dr. Michael Orey and Mr. Tel Amiel, co-investigators.

Assessment Projects

Assessment Web: class project demo web site (2003). Purpose: Building a community to foster the "Scholarship of
    Assessment" for higher education in the state of Georgia. Assessment is about better questions, better instruments, and
    better measurement... improving education for a better tomorrow.  Role: web development and selected topics.
  

Accountability Web: web site created from course demo for professional presentation by Dr. Libby Morris and colleagues
    regarding accountability measures in the University System of Georgia (2003).
Role: web development and information
    organization.

Grants

Changing Perspectives: Technology Integration in the Multicultural Classroom (FIPSE/CAPES Exchange Grant): (March 2003 - present) ($350,000 US and Brazil funds combined). A grant to address the need for multiculturalism in teacher education involving The University of Georgia, The Utah State University, Universidade Estadual Paulista, and Universidade Federal do Ceara of Brazil. The grant provides the creation of three new courses addressing multiculturalism and technology integration, in addition to language proficiency and six month student and faculty exchange between the US and Brazil.

Multidisciplinary Specialists Designing Learning Objects with Cultural Affordances (FIPSE/CAPES Grant – submitted) ($350,000 request). Designed to meet market needs for training specialists from various disciplines in the design, development, and use of learning objects to facilitate learning. Of particular concern in this project is the development of learning objects with multicultural affordances.
